GIC Services

Guaranteed Investment Contracts (GICs) are fixed income investment products that provide a guaranteed interest rate for a specified length of time. The key to this investment vehicle is in its guarantee.

Best Rate GIC in Canada

Although most people choose their local bank when purchasing a GIC, there are a number of different options available in the Canadian marketplace. There are many companies who offer GICs or Term Deposits other than the big 5 banks and these companies may offer a better GIC rate. Our goal at the GIC & Income Exchange is to provide our clients with the best GIC rate in Canada. We will find you the best rate whether its offered by a bank, trust company, insurance company or credit union.

All GICs offered by credit unions are guaranteed by a corporation affiliated with the province in which they are issued. In Ontario, credit unions are guaranteed by Deposit Insurance Corporation of Ontario or DICO, see www.dico.com. DICO's coverage is limited to $100,000 for non-registered deposits, but offer unlimited coverage for registered plans, i.e.: RSP/RIF. Deposits invested with the Manitoba Credit Union are assured by Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation (www.cudgc.com).

When purchasing a GIC, investors should understand who is guaranteeing their investments, and the strengths and limits of the guarantee. GICs offered by banks and trust companies are guaranteed by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (www.cdic.ca) up to $100,000 per unique holder. GICs offered by Canadian insurance companies are insured by Assuris (www.assuris.ca) up to $100,000.00 per unique holder.
